  1. When will the polls be open?

A. The polls will be open Tuesday, May 2, 2006 from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Q. Who can vote in the May 2, 2006 election?

A. All registered voters, ages 18 and older, who reside in the Kalamazoo Public School District may vote in the election. This includes city and township residents in the district.

Q. What is on the ballot?

A. Projects included in this bond are: a new elementary school on 9th Street, a new middle school on a site to be determined, facility and classroom improvements, remodeling and/or additions to 25 buildings, technology infrastructure and equipment, equipping and furnishing buildings and purchasing busses and land. Northglade will benefit from much needed improvements in classrooms (i.e. new doors, carpet, sink/counter and cabinet areas). Other areas include new playground, restrooms, public address and video monitoring systems, and equipment.

Q. What kind of cost will this mean for the average homeowner?

A. For a family whose home is valued at $100,000 ($50,000 taxable value), an increase of 1.15 mills will cost approximately $57.50 per year, or roughly 15 cents per day.

Northglade Montessori Magnet School

The Kalamazoo Public School District is seeking an $85.5 million bond

issue for construction of new buildings, facility and classroom improvements at each district facility, and technology upgrades.

Every school building in the district will receive improvements. Here are the improvements selected for Northglade Montessori Magnet School:

· Remodel east 2 toilet rooms

· Replace cafeteria lighting

· Replace classroom lighting in old section

· Replace secondary clocks

· Provide 30 student computer lab

· Replace 19 corridor doors and hardware

· Install carpet in 12 classrooms (1/2 of each room)

· Install ceramic tile and fixtures in C7a

· Replace cabinetry and sinks in 13 classrooms

· Install security system for front entrance

· Purchase equipment

· Extend PA system to include corridors

Please vote on election day, Tuesday, May 2, 2006.
