School Improvement Plan 2006-2007

2006-2007 School Improvement Plan


We will help all students to read better...


-Using the Montessori Program
-Using one-on-one and small groups to teach lessons
-Providing books, stories and real-life topics
-Having students to read books of choice and taking quizzes on the computer
-Reading books aloud and listening to students read to promote fluency
-Giving daily reading and writing assignments
-Helping students to study and research special topics
-Involving mentors, volunteers, tutors, and college students in classrooms
-Offering Extended Day Program for 5-year-old children
-Making sure teachers present standards published by state department
-Providing ongoing professional development for staff
-Offering special programs (March is Reading Month, Science Fair, Book Nook, Enrichments, Reading Buddies, etc.)
-Giving students MEAP-like practice items to show format of test


We will help all students become better in math by…

-Using the Montessori Math Program
-Using hands-on materials
-Working with students one-on-one and in small groups to teach lessons
-Offering books on math topics
-Teaching math vocabulary
-Reading books aloud with math topics
-Offering special activities (Science Fair, Computer Enrichment)
-Offering Extended Day Program for 5-year-old children
-Involving tutors, volunteers, and mentors to help students in classroom
-Providing on-going professional development for staff
-Making sure teachers present standards published by state department
-Offering the After-School Program for Gr. K-4
-Giving students MEAP-like practice items to show format of test

-Giving lessons on respecting self, others, and the environment
-Partnering with the Head Start Program
-Working with KPS support staff to identify helpful family resources
-Sharing schoolwork on regular basis
-Sharing with parents about Northglade

-Cognitive Abilities Test (Gr. 3)
-Teacher-Generated Tests


The staff is committed to improving instruction by analyzing data on an ongoing basis, training, training in Reading strategies, and implementing Six Traits and the KPS writing method.
